Job Description:

Job Summary

This role is a Technical Support Specialist with an emphasis in Database Administration. This role’s responsibilities are to develop, implement, administer, and maintain policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company’s database systems. Implements data models, dimensional models, database/warehouse designs, data access, data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes and tools, and database maintenance and backup routines. Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues. Includes participating in changes to the environment, testing updates, maintaining documentation, and monitoring performance.

Key Result Areas

  • Responsible for support and maintenance of the production database systems. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • All aspects of database configuration, maintenance, backup, performance tuning, patching, and restoration

  • Implement and maintain database security

  • Monitor and troubleshoot database server performance

  • Monitor database jobs and notify appropriate teams of issues

  • Participating in database design sessions, providing conceptual, logical and physical database designs

  • Evaluating and defining how the data model interacts with external data sources

  • Working with application teams in an advisory role during application development, and manage adherence to recommended best practices

  • Reviewing and analyzing existing processes, identifying improvement opportunities, indexes, partitioning strategies, etc. and make recommendations to improve the processes, schema, SQL, and scripts

  • Performing root-cause analysis and make recommendations for the remediation of data issues

  • Set up database tools for departmental users.

  • Coordinating change management activities

  • Providing technical assistance to staff, key business partners and participating in providing 24/7 on-call support.

  • Support development teams with deploying databases across development environments.

  • Assist with develops and deployments from test and acceptance to production environment.

  • Ability to document change management

  • Assist in tracking, researching, and resolving database system issues as it relates to hardware and software integration

  • Monitors capacity trends and reports performance levels associated with database systems

  • Document database systems support procedures

  • Complies with HIPAA regulations in privacy and security

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • An associate's degree in a related area (or)

  • 1-2 years of information technology systems and/or database administration experience


  • Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in the following areas:
  • Database modeling and design

  • Dimensional modeling and design

  • Programming or scripting language in addition to T-SQL (PowerShell, C#, etc)

  • Database synchronization, failover, and recovery

  • Managing Microsoft Cluster Environment

  • Database Auditing

  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity design and management

  • Database Mirroring

  • SQL Server replication

  • SAN environment

  • Virtual Environments (VMware)

  • Database performance monitoring tools and processes


  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of team leads, supervisors, managers, and vendors
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve operational problems and errors
