Job Description:

The Data Architect I designs and builds relational databases for data storage and processing including a enterprise-wide data warehouse. Develops strategies for warehouse design and implementation, data acquisition, data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes, data models, dimensional models, data tools, and archive recovery. Works with Database Administrators (DBAs) to resolve performance and capacity issues, replication and other distributed data issues. Includes participating in change management, testing, maintaining documentation, and monitoring performance.

Key Result Areas

  • Responsible for designing and implementing data warehouse systems and associated ETL processes.
  • Performs all aspects of data warehouse design, construction, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning.
  • Performs SSIS development and implementation.
  • Participates in database design sessions, providing conceptual, logical and physical database designs.
  • Evaluates and defines how the data model interacts with external data sources.
  • Works with application teams in an advisory role during application development, and manage adherence to recommended best practices.
  • Reviews and analyzes existing processes and how they can be advanced incorporating data warehouse structures and capabilities.
  • Works with process owners to implement changes and document improvements.
  • Provides technical assistance to staff and key business partners and ensures continuous operational excellence in a proactive fashion.
  • Assists in tracking, researching, and resolving database system issues as it relates to the data warehouse.
  • Monitors capacity trends and reports performance levels associated with the data warehouse.
  • Documents data warehouse systems support procedures.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations in privacy and security.
  • Escalates issues appropriately as needed.
  • Proficient in TSQL, SSIS, PowerShell, understanding logic of stored procedures, triggers, functions, and inline SQL queries.
  • Ability to effectively cross train.
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts to team.
  • Current understanding of industry best practices, tools and trends.
  • Recommends hardware and software upgrades according to need.
  • Assists in ad hoc projects, assignments and responsibilities as necessary.
  • Keeps confidential all applicant, client, and verification and company proprietary information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in computer science, information systems, or related field. ? 5+ years of information technology systems and/or data warehouse experience.
  • Database modeling and design.
  • Dimensional modeling and design.
  • Programming or scripting language in addition to T-SQL (PowerShell, Python, C#, etc.).
  • Understanding of database synchronization, failover, and recovery.
  • Experience managing SQL Server replication and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Exposure to database performance monitoring tools and processes. SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Ability to prepare high quality documentation of design/architecture/database infrastructure documents using tools including Visio.
  • Good interpersonal, organization & leadership skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of team leads, supervisors, managers, and clients.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze and resolve operational problems and errors.
  • Use good judgment in problem solving.
  • Identify problems and implement solutions.
  • Goal oriented, with personal plans related to technology.
  • Extremely positive attitude, with strong drive to help others.
  • Ability to work independently with limited or no supervision.
