Job Description:

COBRA is the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act which mandates an insurance program which gives some employees the ability to continue health insurance coverage after leaving employment. The COBRA Specialist I processes member terminations and COBRA enrollments in accordance with federal COBRA regulations.

Key Result Areas

  • Processes participant terminations in GBAS within two business days of receiving notification from client.
  • Coordinates ordering and mailing of COBRA letters.
  • Processes COBRA enrollments within two business days and mails payment coupons to participants.
  • Handles COBRA calls from Customer Care representatives and COBRA participants, and involves other internal teams to resolve issues as needed.
  • Accurately posts participant COBRA payments in GBAS.
  • Maintains accurate client information including; COBRA premium rates, open enrollment documents and special instructions.
  • Facilitates open enrollment for COBRA members as requested by client.
  • Makes COBRA enrollment changes in GBAS as appropriate and in accordance with COBRA guidelines.
  • Responds to COBRA participant/client inquiries within one business day.
  • Provides excellent customer service to client contact and participants.
  • Receives 1st level COBRA appeals and creates timeline of events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

 

Experience and Skills:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related office or administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of COBRA regulations and HIPAA preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills in person and over the phone.
  • Good written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute and use 10 key by touch.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Excellent customer service attitude and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate Accuracy, Customer Service, Timely Turn-Around (ACT).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to work efficiently, perform multi-tasking, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and discretion, as well as the ability to adhere to both company policies and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with security practices and procedures, including HIPAA and HITRUST standards.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively perform the Key Result Areas with or without a reasonable accommodation without posing a direct safety threat to others or self.
