Job Purpose

The Accounting Specialist II manages the accounting functions for our mid-sized clients. The Accounting Specialist II performs necessary accounting functions such as monitoring and payment of plan expenses, funding requests, bank account reconciliations, research, voids & refunds accounting, financial reporting, and other administrative tasks as required. This position has the opportunity to provide a high level of customer service to clients to ensure all their accounting administration needs are met. Additional responsibilities might include managing other smaller groups, providing reporting, handling miscellaneous functions in the department and project work.


Key Functions

  • Manages and oversees all the accounting functions and reporting for several mid-sized clients.
  • Performs accounts payable functions by paying plan expenses timely and accurately.
  • Performs accounts receivable functions by processing deposits, auditing plan adjustments, reporting incoming credits, and adjusting funding requirements accordingly.
  • Creates weekly reporting to assist client(s) with their plan funding requirements.
  • Monitors and reviews account activity, researching and resolving discrepancies, problem solving and accurately reporting adjustments on the account.
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, accurately accounting for all plan expense and credits.
  • Interacts closely with brokers, banks and our internal departments to research problems, address questions, provide data and resolve issues on the client’s behalf.
  • Writes Best Practice (BPs) processes to efficiently and accurately document the specific accounting administration instructions.
  • Creates and distributes invoice reporting of bank fees, special revenue, and third-party vendor billing.
  • Assist with new client banking implementations and bank account setup, new vendor setup, and existing client bank account changes.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications and Education

  • High school degree, or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in applied accounting and banking administration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers; proficient with 10 key and excellent data entry skills.
  • Excellent customer service attitude and professionalism.
  • Works well in multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to work independently on non-structured tasks, manage workload, prioritizing work and meeting tight deadlines, as well as effectively work with a team.
  • A flexible team player who possesses integrity, takes initiative, and uses good judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, proficient in word and good computer skills.
  • TPA experience.
  • Leadership and customer service qualities, exemplifies strong initiative and communication skills.
